ThisisChinese-SwissartistFranklinChow’sdebutsoloexhibitioninChina.
Thetitleoftheexhibition,“ZigzaggingMyWayHome,”wasinspiredbythediverseexperiencesandconfluencesofculturesthatChowhasknowninhislifeandartasheeventuallymeanderedhometohisrootsinShanghai.
TheexhibitionbringstogetherChow’srepresentativeworksincludingpaintings,installationsandvideosfromdifferentstagesofhiscareer,alongsideJournal,aseriesofinkdrawingsandwritingsfromhisdailylifeoverthepast20years.AlsoondisplayarefourancientChineseartifactsfromtheShanghaiMuseum’scollectionwhichgreatlyinspiredhisart.

DuMengwasborninBeijing.In2008,shecompletedaBFAinGraphicDesignattheCentralAcademyofFineArts(CAFA)inBeijing.In2013,DureceivedherMFAfromtheRochesterInstituteofTechnology(RIT)GlassProgram.ShehadbeenanArtistinResidenceaswellasAdjunctFacultyatRITforyearsbeforeshereturnedtoChinain2016.
HerworkshavecontinuedtobeexhibitedandhonoredatvenuesintheUnitedStates,ChinaandEurope.ShenowlivesandworksinBeijingandShanghai,China.

Thecheongsam,orqipao,isconsideredoneofthemostrepresentativefemaleChinesegarmentsincontemporaryhistory.“Cheongsam”istheHongKongCantonesewordforwhatthemajorityofChinesepeoplewouldcall“qipao,”andeitherwaythedressesfeaturestronglocalculture.
ThemedaroundtheHongKongcheongsam,theexhibitiongathers205piecesofcollectionsincludingfinecheongsams,cheongsam-makingtoolsandpromotionalmaterialsfeaturingcheongsamelementsfromthepastcenturyinHongKong,aswellasalargenumberofvaluablehistoricalvideosandimages.IttracestheevolutionofHongKongwomen’sclothing,changesintheindustry,theproductionprocessandfascinatingstoriesofHongKongwomenandcheongsams.
Throughtheexhibition,theaudiencecanabsorbthecharmofHongKongfashionoverthepastcenturyandlearnaboutthechangesinHongKongsocietyandwomen’sstatus.
