AdocumentsignedafterthesummitbythetwoleadersaffirmedKim’scommitmenttocompletedenuclearizationofthepeninsulaandTrump’scommitmenttoprovidesecurityguaranteestotheDPRK.That,Trumppledged,wouldincludefreezingU.S.militaryexerciseswiththeRepublicofKoreawhilenegotiationscontinue.

TheForeignMinistrysaidthatChinaiscommittedtorealizingthedenuclearizationoftheKoreanPeninsula,maintainingpeaceandstabilityonthepeninsulaandpeacefullyresolvingthepeninsulaissuethroughpoliticaltalksbetweenallrelevantparties,andithasmadeunremittingefforts,itsaid.
“Wehopeandsupportthetwocountriestoimplementtheconsensusmadebytheirleaders,promotefollow-upnegotiations,andfurtherconsolidateandexpandtheachievement,makingthepoliticalsettlementoftheKoreanPeninsulanuclearissueasustainableandirreversibleprocess,”itsaid.
Asacloseneighborandanimportantpartyinvolved,Chinastandsreadytoworkwithrelevantpartiesandcontinuetobededicatedtorealizingdenuclearizationonthepeninsulaaswellasestablishingthepeacemechanismthere,itsaid.
StateCouncilorandForeignMinisterWangYisaidearlieronJune12thatitisimportantandpositiveforthetopleadersofthetwocountriestositdownandconductequaltalks,whichiscreatinghistory.Chinawelcomesandsupportsthemeetingandhopesthetwoleaderswillavoiddisruptions,buildmutualtrustandovercomedifficulties,hesaid.
Thesummitstartedwithaone-ononesessionbetweenthetwoleaders,accompaniedonlybytranslators,andwasfollowedbyanexpandedsessionwiththeattendanceofadvisersandthenaworkinglunch.
Whilethedocumentmentionsnodetailsaboutdenuclearization,Trumpsaidthetwosideshaveagreedtovigorousnegotiationsfortheimplementationoftheagreementassoonaspossible.Hesaidsanctionswillremainuntilnuclearweaponsarenolongerafactor.
TheU.S.hadearlierinsistedonarapidprocessofcomplete,verifiableandirreversibledenuclearizationoftheKoreanPeninsula,buthastapereddowntheexpectationrecently.TrumpindicatedonJune12thatitwilltakealongtime,evenfromascientificstandpoint.
